Hello Students and Parents!
It has been such a FUN fall with all of y'all! So far, we have kicked off the school year, spent quality time together, had some fun, played silly games, served together, and dove into what it means to be called by God. We are so blessed to have a group like you to do all of this with. Check out the rest of our student news to hear about upcoming events!
LEADER SPOTLIGHT
Our BLAZE and RADIATE leaders are awesome! For the next few weeks, we would like to highlight our leaders for you. Our leader spotlight this week contains MaKenna Joustra and Emma Rose. BLAZE (MIDDLE SCHOOL)
What is BLAZE? BLAZE is a community of 6th-8th graders that meet every Wednesday evening at FirstCov. We gather to seek God and to be changed by him. We will focus on the word of God through the reading and teaching of scripture, prayer, worship, service, life groups, and some super fun games!
Wednesday, October 11: BLAZE. Take a look at the details:
- WHO? Middle schoolers (6th-8th graders) and their friends are invited!
- WHAT? Join us for a regular youth group night! We will eat snacks, play games, and dive into what it means to be chosen by God. If you want, read Romans 12:2 before you come! Be ready for a great time!
- WHERE? In the youth room at FirstCovGR.
- WHEN? THIS Wednesday, October 11 from 6:30-8p!
Take a look at our Sunday learning opportunities:
- ABIDE 67: 6th & 7th graders are invited to join us for snacks, games, and scripture. Our main focus will be to build community, practice spiritual devotion, and learn what it means to abide in the presence of God. This week, join Lauren Abrell as we continue to talk about the Lord's prayer! Meet in room 112.
- Confirmation: 8th graders are invited to join our confirmation and discipleship class. This week, join Jodye Dennis as she goes over session 3: God and the world! Meet in room 109.
SAVE THE DATE: Our Junior High retreat is coming up at Portage Lake Bible Camp from November 10-12!
- Who? 6th-8th graders & their friends!
- What? Junior High Fall Retreat - come hang out with us for a weekend of real fun, real faith, and good friends!
- Where? Portage Lake Bible Camp! We will take the church bus to and from camp!
- When? Nov. 10-12, 2023
- Cost? $130 - We accept cash, checks (made out to FECC or PLCBC), or online payment through your registration form. We are asking that all payments be made by Friday, November 10! If there are any financial concerns, we do have scholarships available! Please contact Lauren Abrell to learn more.

RADIATE (HIGH SCHOOL)
What is RADIATE? RADIATE is a community of 9th-12th graders who gather to seek God and to be changed by him. We will focus on the word of God through the reading and teaching of scripture, prayer, worship, life groups, and some super fun games! We meet every Sunday evening at FirstCovGR.

- WHO? High schoolers (9th-12th graders) and their friends!
- WHAT? Come hang out with us for a RADIATE night! We will share a meal together (not pizza), play some games, talk about what it means to be chosen by God, and even meet in our life groups! It's going to be a BLAST! Our leaders cannot wait to see you again.
- WHERE? Meet at FirstCovGR in the youth room.
- WHEN? THIS SUNDAY, October 15 from 6-8p.
Our PRAISE BAND AND TECH TEAM is meeting THIS Sunday, October 15 at 4:15pm. Come join us if you sing, play an instrument, or are interested in the behind-the-scenes of it all! Contact Josh Hinken if you are interested!
4-D is back on Sunday mornings! High schoolers are invited to join Patty Hansma from 9-10:15a in room 224. Come eat some donuts and study the power of stories with us!

REGISTRATION/WAIVER
Please note that you must have a FirstCovGR Student Registration/Waiver for the 2023-24 school year submitted in order to participate in FirstCovGR's student ministry events. Please fill out THIS form. We need one form per student.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS
We are super excited to walk alongside you, your student, and your family this year! We believe that what we do in student ministry is important when it comes alongside what you already do at home. In order to bridge the gap between home and church, the two must not only encourage one another, but they must work together. We hope to use this section of our newsletter to provide you with resources to use at home as well as to share opportunities to get involved at church with your student(s). Our student ministry team is very excited about partnering with you!
Resources:
- Our team loves the resources that Fuller Youth Institute provides. Fuller Youth Institute is a branch of Fuller Theological Seminary that has paved the way for youth ministry and intergenerational discipleship. They have a whole library filled with books, articles, podcasts, and more that are directly for parents. Check out THIS link to find out more about it.
Opportunities:
- We are also looking for parents, ministry teams, and other volunteers to host OR or provide a meal for our Middle School Bro/Gal Nights. Here are some dates we are still looking for:
