Standing -- A Foundation

Standing -- A Foundation

John 21. 15-24; I Corinthians 15. 1-6

The Christian faith has a foundation in the death and resurrection of Jesus. The death doesn’t work without the resurrection, but the resurrection means nothing without the crucifixion of Christ. Paul writes, “I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.” Jesus’ resurrection is the foundation on which we stand -- but only we we “hold firmly” to it. Otherwise, for us, it means nothing. John 21 reminds us of that the foundation of the crucified and risen Jesus is a foundation of grace. Peter, in his failure, has a present and a future with the Lord.
